85 Club Car DS upgrade
I have a 85 CC DS. A previous owner upgraded it from resistors to a Curtis 1204 controller. Its still really slow. I'd like to get 20mph. What do I need to do?

Re: 85 Club Car DS upgrade
Increase voltage to 48 volts would help a lot. Is the 1204 programmable? Does it have the 4 pin Molex plug on top? If it does it can be programmed for 48 volt. If not you would need to upgrade the controller. Of course you would need a 48 volt battery pack, solenoid, and charger. Stock motor will run fine on 48 volts, and should run around 18 mph. You could upgrade the motor to a speed motor for 25+.

Re: 85 Club Car DS upgrade
I was hoping to avoid the 48v conversion. This will be a budget build. I just want it to go faster than 12mph. I had hoped the 1204 controller could be turned up.

Re: 85 Club Car DS upgrade
Unfortunately with a series cart 12-14 is about Max unless you upgrade either voltage, or motor, or both. Even just upgrading the controller alone doesn't help with speed. Only torque. Voltage= speed, amps= torque.

Re: 85 Club Car DS upgrade
Thanks. It looks like I'll be going with a 350-400 amp 48v controller, a new solenoid, and new batteries. I don't know which brand controller would be best. I'm kinda between a Curtis and an Alltrax. I have no Idea which would be best. This cart will probably stay stock. The only add-ons are nights and maybe 20" tires. All I want is a stock cart that does 20mph.
