Default Oil on spark plug

Hello! Last fall my golf cart just suddenly stopped running mid use. Sometime during the winter I took apart the carb, and ensured it was getting fuel, still wouldn’t start running. Pulled the spark plug which was pretty dirty, cleaned it and it ran fine for a couple hours. Then same thing, died.

This spring I replaced the gas, changed the oil, and cleaned the carb again and still got nothing. I replaced the spark plug and it ran for about a minute before it just started bogging down. I pulled the new plug and it was black and seemed it had oil on it. Now it will attempt to run but won’t fully kick over, which it wasn’t going before ( it wouldn’t kick at all)

Any suggestions? Added a video of its current state

Default Re: Oil on spark plug

Oil on the spark plug means that oil is getting into the cylinder. This will foul the spark plug causing it not to fire properly.

Oil in the cylinder can be caused by a few different things.
1. Check and verify the oil is not over filled
2. Valve seals worn
3. Valve stems worn
4. Rings worn
5. Head gasket worn

If it's an older cart with lots of hours I wouldn't be surprised to see any or all of these. Engines do wear out eventually.

To check condition of the engine do a leakdown test. Look that up on YouTube if you've never done it. It requires a leakdown testing tool and an air compressor set to 100 psi. It's actually pretty easy.
