Default constant motor power

Hi All,

I have not been able to find my problem by searching the forums so far. I have a 1982 36V EZGO. Recently the cart began supplying constant power to the motor even when the accelerator pedal is not depressed. It is not enough power to make the cart move on its own, but it is enough to make the resistor coils start smoking! Has anyone else run into this before? Also, the power shuts down when the cart is shifted into neutral using the F/R switch.

Thanks for your help!!!

I had the same problem on my 82 marathon and one one the guys on here told me i had a problem with my solenoid and my wiper assembly. I started off by changing the solenoid because I had one from a previous cart and it fixed the problem. Not an expert like most of these guys but yours sounds just like mine. Good to hear someone still has an 82 like me

Just replaced the solonoid at the begining of this season! Hope that it has not gone bad already. I will throw the volt tester on it and see what I get. Is there anything else that may be causing this?

I wouldn't think that your issue is the solenoid only. There has to be another issue making the throttle go full power. I would look at your wiper arm assembly or potentiometer. Without knowing what electronics package you have, it is hard to say...

Like mike says this is a 2 part problem and the speed wiper is a big part of it .... it is not returning all the way to IT"S neutral position. I think over time this can burn out the solenoid......
