Default Newbie build question

Hello, new here from Ga. Just found this site. Looks like some great info.
I have a 1990 EZGO Electric sitting on a trailer that was gifted to my by a buddy. It looks rough. Trying to decide if it is worth re-working. I know the batts are shot, I filled them with water and have it on charge. I was hoping that they would charge enough to see if the motor still runs. I would hate to buy new batteries just to find out I had another problems. Any suggestions other than buying new batteries, to test the motor?
Or any other things to look at to see if this is going to be a good machine to rebuild?
thanks
david

Im Alive !! Thanks everyone!
I just left the trailer, and unplugged the charger after 3 hours of charge. It moved the cart back and forth on the trailer, then died. I guess it is safe to say that the motor runs? not sure how good. The cart was running up untill a few years ago. hoping just the batts are dead. Not sure if you can buy lifts for that old a cart, or make one myself.

Check with the sponsors link on the lift kit. I think for 1989 & newer yo won't have much trouble finding one.
