Convert from four 12v batteries to eight 6 volt?
I am looking to get more run time in my 06 CC. I have a high torque motor and 500 amp controller currently with four 12v batteries that are less than a year old. Tested my batteries with one of those testers that draws the acid up into a plastic device and a floating meter shows the battery condition. All my batteries are ok. I know the limits of EV but I want to get all I can out of it. What will changing over to eight 6 volt batteries do for me? What else will I have to change out besides the batteries? The cart is a 06 XRT 810e. From what I can gell it is a DS with a different body style. I took off the rear body and dump bed and put on a ds rear body and a filp rear seat so I have room in the bagwell for more batteries. I have a 6" lift and 23" tires. Also put a new rear end (limited slip i think) that turns both rear tires when one slips.
Any expert advice or opinions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, |

Re: Convert from four 12v batteries to eight 6 volt?
From what owners of late model club cars with 4 12 volt batterys say you are almost half way through battery life at 1 year? Replacing with 6 8volt batterys like most club cars have seems to be a big advantage. Longer between charges and much longer battery life AS LONG AS YOU USE QUALITY REPLACEMENTS. Having never done this change over I dont know what modifications for additional batterys will be needed?

Re: Convert from four 12v batteries to eight 6 volt?
What about using eight 6 volt batteries? Will i have to change out anything else beside my batteries? How much more run time could I expect to get with eight 6 volt for six 8 volts batteries?

I think it's more trouble than it's worth. Sell the Precedent and get a different cart. That's the easiest fix

It is not a precedent, it is the xrt 810e. Took the rear body and dump bed off and put on a ds rear body and flip rear seat. I like the cart, just want to extend my run time.

Oh - thought it was a Precedent
If you have the room, then go with the plan |

Re: Convert from four 12v batteries to eight 6 volt?
What a great question! Most questions concerning changing batteries are from folks that want to cheap out and go from 6 Six volt (or eight as the case may be) to 3 or 4 twelve volts. Most people don't consider run time and view 36 or 48 voltages as the only consideration.
Not being an electrical engineer or expert, personally I'd go for it and see what happens. I'd take a chance and replace parts as necessary correcting requirements as I go! I would make sure that my cables were at least 4 gauge. Let us know what you decide and what happens - good luck. |

Re: Convert from four 12v batteries to eight 6 volt?
I have a 2008 Carryall 2 with the eight 6 volt battery system. Just got the cart a couple of months ago. Also have a 2006 DS with the four 12 volt battery system. Even though the Carryall batteries are older than the DS batteries, the Carryall's run time is much better. From what I have read, CC has discontinued using the four 12 volt system and now uses the six 8's or the eight 6's. I assume that the reason for the eight 6's in the Carryall is because of its hauling capacity and longer run time. I plan to do exactly what you are considering when my DS batteries need replacing. If I cannot get enough space for the eight 6's, I will go with the six 8's. From what I have learned so far, the only modification needed is to the battery rack and tie down system.

Re: Convert from four 12v batteries to eight 6 volt?
Here's the question I should've asked a long time ago. What do you consider short run time? What type of run time are people seeing with the 4 12 volt battery system? And what type of run time are those of you getting after converting to 6 8 volts?
