Default Key on or off

We use our 2000, 48v CC around the horse farm all day. At night, we pull the key, put it in neutral and charge it. Next morning, we unplug it, put the key in, turn it on, put in fwd and that's, largely, the way it stays all day.
The question: does having it in fwd and the key on while not in use adversely affect anything?
Thanks in advance for your replies,
Curt

No it shouldn't hurt anything. Listen carefully when you first depress the gas peddle a little bit.... do you hear a click? That's the solenoid engaging. Nothing much is hot before that.

Thanks much, ScottyB.
I just wanted to be sure I wasn't adding strain to some already aged batteries.
