Default Power Drive Charger Question

Just bought a stock 95 Club Car DS 48 volt. I was told the charger "didn't work". So I used a buddies charger to get the cart charged up as it was dead. Then decided to plug the "non working" charger in to see what it did. It began charging with no trouble. My question is this...The charger kicks on after plugging in, but never kicks off automatically. I plug it in at night and the charger is still at 10 amps charging the next morning. Is a Power Drive model: 17930 suppose to auto shut off after cart is charged??

Thanks!!

The On-board computer of the vehicle tells the charger what to do. The fact that it is not kicking off can be a number of things. Does the charger turn on immediately when plugged into the car or is there a 2-10 second delay?

The charger comes on on 48 Volt system , only if the batteries are at least 36 Volts.
Once it comes on the charger can run up to 16 hours to get the cart up to http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...-readings.html.

If it has been a while it may take the full 16 hours to get the batteries completely charged
After charger has cut off wait 1 hour for surface charge to drain and then do the battery testing .
To determine what is happening , get a digital Volt meter , check across the entire pack
if the reading is low then check each individual batteries .
. Let us know what the readings are .

For those following this thread...... He sent me a PM and it seems that his batteries may be shot... He's only getting 57 volts... Not enough to reach the 58.3 cut-off voltage for his OBC.... I'm thinking batteries.

Thank you all for your help on this! OK, here is where I'm at. I charged the cart for 16 hours. The charger never shut off and meter on charger was reading 5 amps when I unplugged from cart.

I waited about 2 hours and took the following volt reading from each battery....

8.45
8.28
8.43
8.16
8.16
8.19

and across all the batteries it read 49.2

Thoughts??

2 batteries at 95%
1 battery just over 70%
3 batteries 60%

If that charger is charging correctly, Id say you've got at least 4 batteries that are shot...

Your best bet is replace all batteries at one time. Mixing Old and new the old will drag down your new ones.

I agree with JL. Also, the older batteries may be 5 years old+. You want to give them all the same life span.
