Its a 98 club car DS I already changed the nylon guide ring and changed the rear end oil but still have the noise and it seems to be getting worse.

Sounds like gear chatter. It's possible the gears are excessively worn and you've got excess backlash.

so your thinking rear gear box ? I have new rear wheel bearings and a motor bearing but haven't installed yet, when I had the motor off to put in guide ring in I could turn the rear axle quite a bit back and fourth , should there be a lot of play in there? also when I had the motor off I could move the motor shaft back and fourth should that be pretty solid and have no movement at all ?

It's got all the symptoms in the world of a guide ring. Did you glue it in?

sounds like a bearing in the motor to me . when you had the motor off and went to put in back on did it slide all the way to the transaxle or did you pull it in with the bolts. if you had to pull it in it tends to mess up the bearing .
