Belt is relatively new, I put it on after I bought the cart. might have 3-4 hours tops on it. Don't think its a slipping problem. More of a motor bog than anything could be something is not moving like it should. I'm going to clean clutches etc at first chance I get. I've got an old five wheel "gator" that has a "two speed" clutch. It bogs down until it gets to a certain point and then it "grabs" another gear. Doesn't have much speed but gets loads of torque. I assume the yamaha clutches should act the same way.

You better pull your primary clutch apart and make sure it has a spring in it. Because if it doesn't then your primary is engaging the belt to soon at to low of an rpm and you are loosing a ton of power. That inner spring in your secondary looks to be about the same size as the primary clutch spring. I'm just wondering if someone took it out and put it in the secondary. You would be surprised what people do to these carts.

Seen lots on here about dis-assembly of the secondary, how much trouble is the primary? Any special tools? Mine i think is the "newer" clutch it has the BIG round cover on it. Based on the serial# i think it is a 89' Can someone direct me to a thread about it. Thanks

Does your primary have 6 screws around that holds the cover onif so.its from g2-g14. You will need the clutch tool.

No pics, dark here when I got tome to do anything. Mine is the type with the six screws holding the big gold colored cover on. Grease fitting on the outside sheave, seems to slide freely on the shaft (no spring, does this type have one?) seems to have some play on the shaft. Closes up just as soon as the motor starts. Not sure what the proper operation is for this cart.

You don't need to take it apart to see if it has a spring in it. Remove the belt, then push the outer primary sheave in. If it doesn't have a spring, it won't return.

That is a sec gen clutch from g2. They are good clutches you can take the screws out and check to see if any weights are broken or to much play.

That type of clutch does not have a spring in it.

Thanks for the info from everyone. I'll pull the cover and check the internals tomorrow. How many weights does it have and are there any adjustments or any type of maintenance other than cleaning and giving it a shot of grease occasionally? I can see how a spring would work based on the secondary clutch but how does the front clutch work with the weights?
