1997 G16AR in the Bahamas..Need advice
Have a 1997 Yamaha G16AR over in the Bahamas, am original owner, and it has been sitting since August 2019 before Hurricane Dorian hit us.
Am headed back for first time since and would like to get it started again, and am thinking of taking a new carb. Previously have had a couple after market versions (thinking Motuki ?) and was wondering what might be recommended today, since one dealer told me Yamaha version is no longer being made. Part number I’m showing is JN6-14101-15-00, or other versions ending in 01-00 or something similar. Any input /advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

Re: 1997 G16AR in the Bahamas..Need advice
The latest OEM number JN6-14101-16-00 is supposedly coming off of backorder on 6/25/21.
Its pricey but I am still waiting to see the aftermarket $28 carb that works well or at all. Why change the carb? A overnight soaking in carb dip and a new needle and you could be good to go. |

Thanks.
Although I’ve replaced carbs before, have never taken one apart to clean. Any advice as to materials/soaking solutions or cleaners and technique. Appreciate the reply. |

Re: 1997 G16AR in the Bahamas..Need advice
I'd give it the ole "once over" and "tune up". On a vehicle that was exposed to water, you always want to change all the fluids and if water got in the oil, flush out the engine several times with oil. While you're in there, check your valves. Hopefully the electronics are ok.
*Oil and filter (if equipped) *Spark plug *Air filter *New fuel (drain and rinse) *Flush fuel lines *Clean carb Good luck! |

Thank you.....Luckily, our golf cart was in a protected garage and there was no water exposure....our car was not so lucky and totaled, but advice is good.
Would still be open to advice/trading on how to rebuild the original carb. |
