I would suggest getting the measurements for a new stock belt and compare with your old belt before jumping to the short belt. Get it running good then try changes. JMHO.

Only one screw on the side of the carb with a little nut securing it. If it has been tampered with loosen the nut I ran mine in by finger then simply unscrewed it 1 1/2 turns and secured the nut.

you're probably right but I decided to leap before looking. I have a good feeling about it so we'll see. If I'm wrong, it won't be the first time.

about the carb adjustment. are you saying to screw it all the way in first then back out 1 1/2 turns... turns being 1 full revolution? thanks.

OK guys, update on the cart.

First I got the new belt (short belt) and put it on. It was tougher than I thought but I got it done. It seems like it has better take off and pulls slightly better on the hills. I read where some people said it takes a little break in time before it gets just right.

Second, I adjusted the carb just like you said to do. All the way in and then 1 1/2 out.

Third, I adjusted the gas mix to 100:1. Everything seems OK except one thing...

When going downhill. I'll get some speed up and then it'll die out and nose down. then it'll act like it's got gas again and take off only to act like it's going to die and the process repeats itself. I put the cart in reverse and went back up the hill (in reverse) with no problems. Also, it'll fly backwards but not so much forward. What seems to be the issue?

Why does it go fast backward and not as much forward and why does it act like it's dieing going downhill when I get some speed up?

I really appreciate all the help so far. It's been great!

Is your governor still hooked up if so it may be the governor limiting over vev may be as simple as an adjustment on the cable. Be sure not to let it over rev there are post on BGW about proper TOP RPM over the top you will loose all speed. BANG!!!!!!

yeah the governor is gone but I don't think that has much to do with it. I'm fairly new so I could be way off but does anyone think it might be the clutches? I read on another thread about someone's short belt acting like a brake. that's the way this one is. It goes pretty good and then it feels like someone stabs the brakes. It almost kills the engine but not completely.

does anyone have a pictorial break down of the clutch and its components? I enjoy learning new stuff and since this little cart is costing me a small fortune to get going, I figure the clutches are next

Also, I think I'm going to try the muffler bbq. Juse to make sure, all you do is build a fire and throw the muffler on it and let it cook right?

I say give the belt some time mine was a little tight at the first but as I run it its getting better.I've been trying to dog it as much as possible and now its getting better with time. The muffler thing I haven't tried but as I understand it thats all there is to it.Build a bbq fire throw on some pork steaks, grill, drink some beer, and install muffler while eating.Pick it up in the morning. LOL
