Default Upgrade cart wiring to 4G on stock TXT PDS?

Hi all,

I am buying a new set of Trojan T105s and though it is an opportune time to upgrade my cart's cables. After reading through few threads, I discovered that on my stock 2006 EZGP TXT PDS cart (Sepex I believe), the controller is what controls the motor's RPMs and I may not see any increase in top end speed. Would I see an increase in torque? Is upgrading all my cables to 4G worth it if I am staying with stock controller and motor? Besides the 5 battery cables, how many other (and what length cables) do I need to upgrade my PDS cart?

Thanks.

I know you said you were staying stock but take it from me----you might change your mind. I did. If it were me I would get in touch with ScottyB and get him to make you up a complete set of battery, controller, and motor cables. He makes probably the best aftermarket cables I have seen and he knows what length cables you need. I would get 2 ga cables. You have to think your cables are going on 8 years old. Change them all.

Good idea. I kind of think I will probably get the mod bug and keep upgrading as time goes on. I would like to make my own cables though. Does anyone know the lengths I would need and how many cable I have to make?

If you are going to make your own, remove the old cables and measure them. Change every large cable on the cart. Do a search on battery cables and you will find all the info you need. Hope that helps.

Gator.....yes get a complete set.....either 4 ga, or if there is any possibility you may upgrade in the future, go with 2 ga. for a complete set, there is only a $30 difference between the 4 ga. set and the 2 ga.

as mentioned, Scotty makes the best cables..... his website is CartsUnlimited.net. Scotty is a site sponsor as well. here is a direct link to the cable page. What you will want would be either Kit #10 or Kit #11.

I agree on the cable upgrade, but like Olman said get the 2ga. cables, they'll have less resistance than 4ga. And also like Sir Nuke said, their not that much more and in the long run, your better off. Hope this helps you out.

I just removed the cables from my cart and my stock cables form the controller to the motor is 4g. The rest of the cables are 6g. I planned on upgrading to 4g cables, so does this mean I need to up the size of the cables from the controller to the motor to 2g. Or can I just leave the stock 4g cable as is?

regardless of whether you want to have a 4 ga. set or a 2 ga. set.....you really want/need to have a complete MATCHED SET. The two kits I referenced in the link above are matched sets.....in other words, EVERY High Current Cable in your cart.

The stock PDS controller monitors motor RPM with a speed sensor won't let it exceed 4,400RPM. which is about 18-19 MPH on stock height tires.

If your existing High Current cables have excessive resistance, which is very likely since they are eight years old and constructed poorly, you may feel some torque gain when you install good cables. More correctly, you won't be loosing as much electrical energy as heat, which will be felt as a gain in torque.

Although I was planning to run stock at the time, I upgraded the 3 year old OEM cables in my 2008 PDS cart less than a week after I bought it in 2011. The stock cables didn't look bad to my critical eye, but I'm old school and wanted heavier gauge cables with sealed lugs that were soldered rather than crimped. It was a wise decision because I did get a little better low end torque and when I did decide to upgrade, I already had an adequate Amp delivery system for a DCX400, and later for a DCX500 feeding an 11.8HP D&D motor.

As mentioned by others, all 10 High current cables should be replaced.
