Default 97 Ezgo Solenoid

I have a 97' Gas EZGO that seems to have a bad solenoid. Is there a way to test these outside of the cart as I'm not certain the replacement solenoid I received from a local shop is working.

The 2 small terminals are the ends of an electromagnet. Connect the positive, and negative of a battery to them.

The solenoid will click.

That is the sound of the two large terminals making contact with each other.

You should then be able to measure zero resistance across the two big terminals with a digital meter set to ohms.

solenoid test
Quote:
Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. remove all wires, restorer , and diode from solenoid
test 1
Connect an volt meter, set on continuity, place on the two large terminal studs. The meter should indicate no continuity, Replace the solenoid if continuity is present.
test 2
Using jumper wires attach from positive and negative of battery to the two small solenoid studs, polarity is not important. You should hear a click as the solenoid engages, and the meter should indicate continuity on the two large terminals. Replace the solenoid if continuity is not present.
if solenoid clicks rapidly solenoid is bad

Thanks. I'll be back in town to do these test in the coming days.

Any suggestions as to why I would be blowing the fuse that's on the hot side of the large terminal post? I'm using a 10amp fuse. It seems to blow for no apparent reason on an occasion when the pedal is immediately engaged.

Lastly, can someone identify this part and it's replacement for a 97 gas TXT. Could I be getting surges from it? Thanks again in advance.

I have that part as well on the back of the bracket where the solonoid attaches. The one in question is in front of the solenoid. Thanks

First pic is the Ignitor.
Voltage regulator is not going to cause the blown fuse. Never seen the ignitor blow it either.
Simplest check to see if the solenoid is working is to just leave it in the car, grab a cable of some sort, and just jump the 2 big posts of the solenoid, just have to hold it on there to see if the motor cranks over.

Thanks GCG for confirming my suspicion the first picture is the igniter.

I've jumpted the two large terminal post in the past on the solenoids even using a screw driver to ensure the starter is getting power and the engine cranks (which it always does). My understanding is this is merely bypassing current between poles and not actually running the current through the solenoid since i'm merely just crossing the two poles. Is that really a check if the solenoid is functioning internally? Thanks

No, that's not telling you the solenoid is working. It needs to click with no help. Control issue if it doesn't click on its own
