On my stuff that goes long periods without running (tiller, generator, pressure washer, etc.) I will disconnect the fuel line from the carb. Let the motor run until it dies (if it has a fuel pump, then route the fuel line into the gas tank). Then I just drain the tank and use it in something that will be used over the winter (atv, golf carts mostly). Then when you're ready to use it in the spring just fill it with fresh gas and go!
