Here's a manual. The engine has to come out.

As long as you have it out to do a top end I would at least do crank seals too. In fact, I would do an entire rebuild. It doesn't cost that much more and you'll get a new crankshaft with all new crank bearings, seals etc.......
Ive seen the Harley Engine do that, be different compression in forward than reverse.

I agree if your doing the top end pull the motor and do crank seals with the top end. also check crank bearings for play.

Okay , starting that process now. Pushed cart in garage now starting to label all my wires for easy plug reattatchment. I’m on a budget right now for this project (wife) and she would like me to just try to replace rings and piston and gaskets without doing full top end rebuild (let alone bottom end rebuild) should this be doable depending upon the damage of the cylinder head ?

There is no damage to the head. It's all cylinder, piston, and rings.

This is the seal. https://www.golfcartking.com/ezgo-parts/engines-seals/ They are $6.95 each. You need two of them. I would hope that your time to take out the engine twice is worth more than $14. Because if you don't change those seals now, you will be yanking out that engine for the second time.

Dabble, even though the piston only moves up, and down, the direction of movement will determine which side of the piston has a load applied by the connecting rod. His is worn out more in the forward direction.

Ohhhh ok, that makes sense. Thanks CA..............

To the OP, So what all did you order?
