89 Marathon rear shock extensions not fitting
I just bought a lift kit for my 89 Marathon and tried to install it the other day. It was the Economy 4 lift for EZGO gas carts. The kit stated that it was a simple bolt on design without any drilling necessary. When I tried to install the rear shock extension blocks to the frame, the holes on the extensions did not line up with the holes on the original shock mounts.
I know that I ordered the correct kit for the corresponding year of the cart, but is there something else Im missing? Since I already bought the kit, Im trying to avoid having to fab pieces that I already have. Any help is appreciated. |

Re: 89 Marathon rear shock extensions not fitting
The hole for the bolt in the frame mount is offset, whereas the bolt hole in the shock extender is centered. I've also tried fitting both sides of the shock extender on the frame mount and no luck.
Was wondering if anyone else has the same problem. |

Re: 89 Marathon rear shock extensions not fitting
If it was me I'd just redrill those lower holes. It looks like on the bottom frame shock bracket the hole was drilled off center at the factory. With a shock it doesn't matter, but with that extender it obviously doesn't line up. Just mark that bottom hole and redrill.

Just in case I wasn't clear. Redrill on the dots.

Re: 89 Marathon rear shock extensions not fitting
Thanks for the help everybody!
Ill look into drilling the holes. I also dont want to compromise the integrity of the frame, especially at a weight-bearing location though.... |

Re: 89 Marathon rear shock extensions not fitting
If you are just enlarging the holes (slotting them) I wouldn't think there is any loss of strength there. The new extension bracket you have looks pretty stout.
