The ones I replaced the old one was broken, likely yamaha parts, so yes age may have something to do with it.

I put my clone in and now made an intake for that and use no spacer on it at all, so guess I got rid of that issue lol.

Digging up a 4 year old topic. Has anyone had one CNC machined up from a piece of aluminum? Only downside to this is heat transfer to the carb.

That's basically what it is and should be called, an insulator, I guess spacer is easier to spell?
Aluminum will conduct heat and cause issues. There are to many out there doing the job correctly to warrant change.

It looks like yamaha took a look at the problems with the G2-14 unit and came out with an improved design that is not so fragile.

I think everyone’s comments on here are spot on!!

About the only thing I might add is, the stock filter system supports the carb and spacer with the (hose and filter box) attached during all the extreme vibration these motors produce!!

If your using an aftermarket filter, the extra weight of that filter flopping around, and all the hot/cold cycles the spacer goes through I can only guess weakens the spacer!!
