Default Spark plug for HEI conversion

Converted my 88 marathon over to an HEI, been going thru 2or3 spark plugs a year. Installed a new one, and with in an hour I had a hard time starting and maintain running once I did get it going.
Not sure if I need a hotter or colder plug. Im using an NGK BP5HS, which. I used in it before I made the conversion. Can someone that has done the conversion guide me on a plug that will work better.
Thank you in advance!

You shouldn't need to change the plug heat range. What is the gap set to?

Open the gap to .040". HEI requires a larger gap. If that doesn't help the starting/running issue, I'd look for something else that is causing it.

Thanks for the advice. Opening up the gap made a world of difference. Fixed most of my issues.
