Default Yamaha Golf Cart G1 not running correctly

Our G1 golf cart has started acting funny. It looses power when going uphill. It will run OK on level ground or going down hill but looses all power and starts rolling backward if you try to even go up a small hill. What can we do to fix this?

The golf cart runs alright ( not what it used to) here are some symptoms.
1. Starts fine but have to pump gas pedal or use choke to get it to start moving.

2. When it starts to move it takes a minute to kick in and go.

3. You can give it full gas or just a little and it will drive for awhile but don't slow down or stop within that initial start or it looses the "drive" forward motion.

4. When this happens the motor will run but the wheels will not move it forward.

5. Sometimes we hear it trying to back fire as well. (not often but it does sometimes).

6. If you get it warmed up and moving alright and come to even a slight hill the motor sounds like you need to give it gas. When you give it gas to get up an incline it dies. No motor running and you start rolling back down the hill.

No, the engine has not been rebuilt. And the belts are original.

Measure the belt across the top, 27 mm is the worn out limit. If its close to that or less get a new belt installed then see how it goes. If you don't have an owners manual to look this kind of stuff up you can download one from yamahagolfcars.com. You can also get your basic carb settings from the manual and check your settings against the specs. Check your spark plug as well, if it has not been changed for a while it could be heavily carboned up. There is no quick solution, you will have to check everything to make sure all is well, or determine what needs to be addressed.
