G9 Carb decision

Purchased my first G9 cart. The cart seems to run when it wants. Turns over great but starts when it wants to. After fully diagnosing and removing the carb, looks like the carb is going to need replacing. Prices are all over the board for the carb- aftermarkets for $139 down to $98. I can get a factory one for about $200. My question is- have anyone used the aftermarket carbs? Any issues with them that you know of? Thanks in advance.

You'll have to watch the aftermarket carbs because alot of them are "gravity feed" types for motorcycles and atv's. You'll want a carb that will be able to handle the pressure from a fuel pump, one that has a large fuel bowl similar to the stocker, and one that measures the same or close to original for proper flow. Also the hookups and linkages will all have to be modified to fit and could present a problem.

Another thing to consider is to rebuild the stock carb. These carbs aren't very complicated and "can" be rebuilt by a novice if you are careful. Rebuild kits generally cost $30 to $60 but can vary.

All the carbs I have looked at are supposedly OEM replacements. However I also looked at the ones from a couple of the site sponsors that are suppose to be for my cart. I would guess they would be ok?

Unless there is actual damage to the carb,why not rebuild?As far as replacements,make sure it is a direct-replacement or you will pull your hair out trying to tune it.I've seen people mess with "similar" carbs for days,then they find out it was on a gravity-feed,2-stroke(pilot-jets,different needle,etc..).Hope this helps.

The only time I ever replaced a carb is when the shaft was worn into the body causing an air leak. Unless something is broken/damaged there is little other reason, just grab a can of carb clean and blow it out. Make sure the spacer to the head is not cracked don't over tighten it. Make sure airbox is sealed up good or you have to richen the jetting. Also get a new plug get the ngk 2 bpres whatever it is for newer model than the G9 yami carts. I am 99.999% sure a larger carb is not going to make more power, my G9 would go 30gps at 3/4 throttle same as WOT. That carb works amazingly well.

Well looks like I am going with the OEM carb just to be on the safe side. I will let you know how it works out. It should be here on Monday or Tuesday so next week we'll know something.

No rebuild the original! Its good unless the throttle shaft is worn. Or parts missing.

I'm with Mac,unless its' damaged or parts are missing,the original is a far better alternative.I've seen some nasty,corroded carbs,that a little soaking,and scrubbing made them brand-new.I've probably gone thru 20 carbs in the last year (I do alot of repair-work)between carts,mowers,snow-blowers,motorcycles,atvs',etc.and only bought 1 rebuild-kit!All the others were taken apart,cleaned,adjusted and reinstalled.No Combacks yet!!

The carb on this cart has some play in the shaft and I think that is what is the starting issue. It seems to leak air when it isn't starting. The times it does start, the shaft doesn't have play in it. It is hard to explain.
