Re: battery dying
Might be a bad cable, loose connection, corrosion? If not, then I'm afraid you may have a short somewhere in the wires. Hopefully it's something you can see like a frayed wire, burned wire, etc. Get a good flashlight and check every wire one at a time. Nothing having to do with wiring is easy I'm afraid.

Re: battery dying
Ok,
First step, check that the red wire at the Voltage regulator is getting power when running, the throttle needs to be open enough to turn on the run circuit in case you have the cart set up so it will idle. Confirm continuity to the small red wire on the generator from the VR. Check resistance between the red and green wires on the generator. You should see about 5 ohms. If this is all good there should be no wiring issues feeding the generator. Next is to test the generator itself, At the VR either jumper the green to the black or remove one and hold it to the other. Volt meter on the battery. Run the engine and you should see a voltage rise just off idle and it should quickly climb through 17 volts, don't push this. If all is good there then you are looking at the voltage regulator. With the 3 wires hooked up I expect you have checked voltage output already, obviously it was not working. Remove the cover of the VR. Clean the set of points, there is an upper and lower set. If this does not help replace the VR. My VR looked like it had water in it, kind of like salt water, the new one should be here in a day or two. |
