Re: New engine rebuild, NO OIL PRESURE!!
Ok, measured pump housing @ .151 and rotor @ .147. so .004 clearance. Sounds reasonable?
Took a closer look at the 3 bolt pump cover and I see it is slightly concaved as it would meet the pump. About .005-.007. it looked flat but a straight edge and feeler gauge proved different! So I think at this point the issue is in that cover? Question is someone had hit it with a hammer to make it convex to the pump, WHY, then when I straightened it I made it concave? |

Re: New engine rebuild, NO OIL PRESURE!!
When you deal with old stuff you never know what the guy before you did, or why.
I think the issue is the cover. If you have a .004 clearance then add in the .004 warp you could have .01 or greater gap at the rotor tips in the center area of the cover. More then enough to allow air to bypass from on side to the other. The hammer mark may have kept it flat when torqued. To compensate for the oring stress. Might need to find another cover and see if it is factory or not. Could be that when You straightened it the steel still had stress / warp from the bend in it and when you torqued it back down it popped out backwards. Did you replace the oring? Sometimes they get hard and junk builds up in them. Like a sponge. This would not allow the cover to press down all the way and when torqued the bolt tabs would pull the center out against the oring fulcrum. |

Re: New engine rebuild, NO OIL PRESURE!!
Maybe, when I straightened it I did put a straight edge on it.
So I am looking for a new one! Thanks, I'll let you know |

After rebuild, with the rocker cover off, pour oil into the galley from the oil pump on fan side to prime the pump.

Ordered a new cover, hope that's the issue. But it still cost me 2 new rods! I should have noticed that cover when I cleaned it up. Getting OLD is HELL! LOL |

Re: New engine rebuild, NO OIL PRESURE!!
What if you pour oil in the pressure side and rotate the engine by hand backwards? Would that be enough to pull oil through the pump and down to the pan?

Re: New engine rebuild, NO OIL PRESURE!!
OK, just installed the new oil pump cover.
Installed a manual oil pressure gauge. Have 22lbs pressure just turning engine over with no plugs in it. So I will see if it picks up (primes ) in the morning!?? Went ahead and done a compression test. I would not think the rings would be seated yet, only about 4 miles on engine. It has 175lbs both cylinders. |
