Well, progress, finally. I picked up some longer bolts so I could try my puller, and it works. Only problem is that the bolt is not long enough, so I need to get another length of something to stick in there, and crank it some more. It's probably 1 to 1 1/2 inches from where it was, so it can't have much further to go.
