Batteries boiling.....
So I have been working on the RXV and haven't put it on charge for a couple weeks. The voltmeter said 50.2 but I thought I would plug in the charger. Had it on for 10 minutes and started hearing the batteries boiling. The voltmeter was up in the 60s. I have no idea if any of this is normal or really bad. I don't think it is good tho.... All I did was add the voltmeter to the 48v system. I added a battery for all the accessories.

Re: Batteries boiling.....
My Lester charger takes my pack (48v) to 65v. Current is very low at this voltage level. Batteries are not "boiling" but gassing. Some gassing is necessary to charge the batteries properly. Excessive gassing and electrolyte oozing from the caps is a sign of overfilled cells or batteries nearing end of life.

New batteries. Should I let the charger go to solid green?

Re: Batteries boiling.....
Yes, unless you have some reason to suspect a malfunctioning charger.
My charger takes the batteries up to 65-66v and holds them there for more than an hour before shutting off. Batteries and charger are 7 months old. Charger is a Lester. Has been a respected name for years. |
