88 Club car solenoids clicking in series with only "fast" solenoid working
Hello everyone. Now that I've pulled all my hair out, I come to masters for assistance. I just purchased a 1988 club car 36v. I've searched the threads and I this point I'm totally at wits end. Problem: I have no speed but "fast". Thanks to your posts I can verify the momentary switches are powering each of the solenoids. If I depress the accelerator the main solenoid clicks, depression further, the second solenoid clicks and so on until the last solenoid clicks and the cart finally moves. Thanks to your posts I understand the concept of the solenoids and resistance coils but I'm at a loss. Could all the solenoids click but be bad? Except for the last one? The cart is a little bit of a basket case and I had to follow wiring diagrams to straighten a few incorrect wiring issues. Your thoughts?

One way to test what you said is to move that last solenoid to say the second solenoid position. It the movement of the cart changes get some new solenoids.

More than likely a poor connection. Since the high speed bypasses the resistors, and it's the only one working, I'd be checking connections between the solenoids and the resistor coils. Maybe even disconnect the "bar" that ties the solenoids together then see which solenoids have continuity to the resistor coils as each is energized. I had a similar issue with one that turned out to be a burned connection on the metal "tab" connecting one of the solenoids to the resistor coil.

I removed the bar and had some pretty rusty nuts on the bottom of the post. All cleaned up. Checked all the connections. Same results. The only difference is noticed was before I even took it apart I had no high speed anymore. Now I have nothing but solenoids firing one at a time but no wheels moving. I checked with a test light at the motor and it seams most of the wires had power. These batteries in a series is a little confusing. I don't know to use the positive or negative as a ground for my testlight

Re: 88 Club car solenoids clicking in series with only "fast" solenoid working
Ok men I'm getting closer. I took the micro switch box out and the 1st and last switch were stuck closed so I replaced them and check continuity thru each one. I got power now but only on the main solenoid and I believe the last solenoid. Now that I think of it when I would depress the pedal I only heard 3 solenoids not 5. So I'm getting closer. At least she moves now. Maybe I'll throw in a new solenoid in the 2 3 and 4 position. Although they click maybe they're not making a connection.

2 bad micro switches and #2 and 3 solenoids were bad. Although they clicked they weren't making a connection. All done! Thanks everyone for your help. Hope this thread comes in handy to someone in the same situation.
