Default Check your nuts!!

So, I've been really good at battery charging and keeping the terminals from corrosion using a product called NOALOX. It works pretty good. I also am keenly aware of the distance I get on a charge....and I check the battery water at least once a month.

Well, two of my batteries are in the bagwell....and kind of a PITA to get at. I'm semi-lazy when it comes to those two, but today I figured I cut the two plastic ties, pull the rear winch wires....and "have a look."

Water levels were good but two terminals (one on each battery....I dunno how or why that happens) had some green puss. So, I took some baking soda with water and scrubbed 'em off with the intent of taking off the nut and doing a through job.

So....the pic below is the condition of the nuts!! Now, the corrosion ( AKA lots of green puss) wasn't super bad.....but man....the power of electric!! I did have spare nuts (How many of you can say that? ) so I replaced 'em. I also checked every connection.....now it's all good.

Interesting product never seen it. What made you start using that on battery terminals?

Well....to answer the first question, YES....I am running 8 6-V Trojans in my 48-V system. Second question....I shoot skeet every Sunday with a Union Electrician. He's a great guy and a few years ago I was complaining to him that I was tired of cleaning my battery terminals once a month. To witch he replied...."Use NOALOX, it's for protecting two different metal types when you put them together.

I purchased it (believe it or not) at Lowes. Slather it all over the brass terminal and the connection nut....and you can go months without cleaning your terminals. Actually....longer for most. But that darn battery gassing will get to a few of 'em.

This product won't prevent you from maintenance.....as you can tell by my "toasted nuts" but it will help you to not do the monthly "clean my terminals" gig.

And keep some spare nuts......you can never have 'nuff nuts!! 'Cause sumpin like STD's (which is different that STP) can ...as 2016CTD has said.....will give you puss nuts quicker than you can say Jackie Robinson!!!

I scrub my nuts with a wire brush regularly. No corrosion. Wears the brush out though.
