Default 2005 ezgo selonoid engages with key

2005 EZGO 36v selonoid clicks when key is turned on. Does not run. The led light on the controller comes on but gradually turns red when accerator is pressed. What do I need to check.

Can you tell us which drive system and what controller you are asking about?

It is a TXTPDS with the F/R switch in the dash. The controller is a DCX ALLTRAX. Not sure if that tells you enough. I have checked the micro switch in the box under the floor. It is good. I also notice that the solenoid engages with key on, tow switch in run, and F/R switch out of neutral. If any of those things are not true the solenoid disengages.

That is typical solenoid operation for PDS of that time. Once the solenoid engages and disengages on it's own it should then engage when the pedal is pressed. DCX controller does have a LED status light which may throw a flashing trouble code.

The green led light blinks four times when first turned on. Then remains lit. The small post on the solenoid has around 35v to them at all times when key on, in F/R an tow switch in run position. Regardless of the accelerator.

With key on and toast switch in run position, in forward, accelerator all the way down, LED light turns red. If in reverse, Accelerator all the way down, LED light stays green.

All that sounds good except solenoid small posts has power all the time. The yellow wire should only have power when the pedal is depressed. It could be that the micro switch in the pedal box (under the floor) has failed in a closed position. You should be able to determine if this is the case by taking the wire off of the solenoid and checking it for power with and without the key on. If the key is powering the yellow wire (+) then the pedal switch is bad.

I opened the box under the floor where the switch is contained and removed the switch to test. When the switch is depressed there is connection (continuity) between the two terminals. When the switch is not the pressed there is no continuity between the terminals. I assume this means the switch is good?

Seems to be working. You said small solenoid yellow wire was hot (+) all the time. If the switch is cutting power on and off the trouble may be in the controller. The controller should only have power at pin #7 for the yellow wire when the pedal box switch is closed... not constantly. Constant power while the switch was open would indicate a controller failure.

When used with the PDS to DCX adapter, J1 Pin-7 (Yellow wire) will have pack voltage (B+) when Reed switch is closed (or bypassed), Run/Tow is in Run, F/R is in either F or R and Keyswitch is on.

The solenoid is energized when pedal switch is closed, telling controller to connect DCX Pin-7 to B-, which connects to J1 Pin-6 (Blue wire).

It is either a Controller failure or B+ is somehow getting to DCX Pin-5 without pedal being pushed.

Attached is a DCX in a PDS schematic with B+ to solenoid highlighted.
