Default 2010 rxv brake locked up

Out riding my rxv tonight, all the sudden It slows down and I smell the smell of burning brakes. I stopped for a couple minutes I realized that the break is locked up I try to continue and it keeps happening. After about 20 minutes of sitting I continue and the break is no longer locked up and I luckily get back to my garage. Does anybody know what the heck is going on. I've heard that there are problems with the motor brake? Is that the problem if so how do I fix it. Thank you in advance

You will probably have to replace the parking brake. All normal braking on a RXV is done by the motor. The parking brake only applies when the cart isn't moving. When the parking brake starts dragging it heats up and then it will lock up. The best prices I have found are on Ebay. It's easy to replace but you need to follow the manual to be sure it is aligned correctly. Also the three bolts that hold it to the motor should be tightened evenly and to the minimum torque.

You should be able to pick up a oem brake for around $115.00.

The Danaher controllers used in the 2008 to Feb 2012 RXVs don't usually play well with the aftermarket HD motor brake units. The impedance of the HD motor brake coil is lower and tends to trip an EM Brake fault. You want the OEM type of Motor Brake only when you have the Danaher controller. The Curtis controllers have a higher tolerance to motor brake coil impedance.

Here's a link for an OEM RXV motor brake at a fair price. I am not affiliated with the seller. I have bought OEM RXV motor brakes from eBay in the past. YMMV depending upon what you buy and whom you buy from. Don't let price be the only determining factor. You want OEM, not aftermarket rejects from China that failed to meet the OEM spec. There are a lot of those out there on the market.

I haven't had the issue again yet, and got the replacement in the mail today. I bought the cart just for resale, and got the motor brake to go along with it because I will not sell a cart unless I know it's in 100% working condition. Gonna hold onto it a bit longer just to make sure the problem was a fluke.
