Re: New used 2008 CC DS IQ no go!
Nah the powerdrive charger only has a relay a diode set and a big transformer. Nothing that retains voltage when it's unplugged.
Only thing I would say is while you're in there check the wire terminal connections at the relay, fuse, and circuit breaker. And be careful with the wires that come off of the transformer, they're solid copper and bending them around too much will break them. I also recommend soldering the new terminals onto your new cable. Loose connections on those often cause the wire terminals to melt and can cause other damage. I can't remember now if the original power wire was 16 or 14 awg, but you should be able to tell or find the size printed on the insulation if you strip the jacket off the cable. I've used old 14awg extension cords on a couple because I needed longer cords to reach the outlet, and they work great. As long as you at least match the size of the wire that's there you should be good. |

Re: New used 2008 CC DS IQ no go!
My charger had a 16ga power wire so that’s what I used to replace it. The charger was full of dirt. I blew it out with the air compressor.
Got the new cord in and cart is charging. Another question, how do I know when the cart is getting low on battery power? I’m worried I’m gonna get halfway round the block and the thing is gonna die on me. Also, if that does happen at some point, can I tow it home behind my truck with a strap if I flip the switch to tow mode?? I don’t have a trailer but I’ve seen golf courses towing back dead carts all the time. |

Re: New used 2008 CC DS IQ no go!
Our site sponsors carry nice digital volt meters that give you your battery voltage in real time. Install one and learn the voltage you can run on. Full charge is 50.9 re-charge no lower than 48.0 volts. This is after cart has sat about five minutes. While driving the voltage will drop to lower 40's but not stay there. you will learn soon how far you can go. as your batteries get older that time will get shorter.
Other will chime in on sponsors, I'm not very handy posting links. |

Re: New used 2008 CC DS IQ no go!
How far you go depends on battery condition, driving habits and terrain, and if the cart has any mods (bigger tires/extra weight added, lights/stereo system /other electrical consumers).
For a stock cart, new battery pack, on a full charge on mostly flat roads these are designed to run about 30 miles. (about two full rounds of golf on a standard 18 hole course) Hills and off-road stuff (grass, mud, etc) that range starts dropping off real quick. The only way to really know for sure is to install a digital voltmeter in the dash so you can keep an eye on pack voltage like MrGolf said. Make notes of the pack voltage and you'll start to figure out how far you can go on a charge with your driving style and terrain. If you feel the cart starting to noticeably slow down, you've gone too far. ScottyB sells good digital gauges on his site https://www.cartsunlimited.net/battery-meters.html |

Re: New used 2008 CC DS IQ no go!
Ok I got a volt meter. Went with amazon as ScottyB didn’t have the blue ones in stock.
I wired it to the ignition switch so it’s on with ignition on. I used 14ga wire I already had (another power cable). This way I already have a couple extra wires ran for future expansion. So how low can my voltage go before I only have a mile or so left? Realistically I doubt I will ever be more than a mile or two away. |

Re: New used 2008 CC DS IQ no go!
Never go below 50%.
Lead acid batteries do not tolerate being run totally dead, as in, running to the point that the cart stops moving. If the cart is that dead, irreversible damage occurs to the plate structure in the batteries and you lose capacity and overall lifespan. Batteries are only really "good" for X number of cycles (discharge/charge) and that "X" number is dependent on Depth of Discharge or how much you drain them. 50% is a typical minimum for golf cart batteries and typically yields a 5-8 year service life depending on how frequently you drive the cart. Assuming yo also properly maintain them during that time period. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...ml#post1426529 https://usbattery.com/wp-content/upl...life-cycle.pdf |
