Sorry to hijack the thread but I am having a very similar issue on the same year RXV. After some quick testing, I determined the contactor was acting up. Getting voltage across the control side without it pulling in. I tried another known good contactor (Precedent take off) and was experiencing the same issue.

I was able to jumper the control side with battery voltage and was able to make the contactor close. When I did that I immediately noticed the resistor coil behind the coil get warm. My initial thoughts are maybe the controller could be bad and not allowing a good enough connection to close the contactor.

The Precedent solenoid is a 48V. Your RXV, while it is a 48V cart, uses a 36V solenoid.

Thanks, that is helpful. Should I be seeing 36v going to the control side? I am getting full pack voltage.

You should see pack voltage on both large solenoid terminals when the solenoid is activated. The 36 volts is the voltage used to close the contacts in the solenoid. The controller uses pulse width modulation to supply 36 volts to the solenoid. Newer RXVs use a 48 volt solenoid.

And the full B+ will be present on the small terminals, the controller does its switching on the B- side of the small terminals.

Thank you!!

I tested the original contactor and its working when applying voltage to the control side. Now that I understand how its triggered, it leads me to believe the controller is most likely bad. Does that sound about right?

Also just to point out, I have reviewed the advanced troubleshooting guide before posting. I didn’t see anything addressed about the contactor not being cycled.
