Default Re: 1989 EZGO speed issues and charge question

1. Traction motors, like those used in golf carts, work over a wide range of voltages tend to run better on 48V than they do on 36V. It takes fewer amps at 48V to do the same amount of work than it does at 36V and heat is generated by the square of the amp flow, so they run cooler doing the same job.

The bad news is the resistor coils could burn out will higher voltage, so you'd have to come up with some way to insure the higher voltage is only applied when the throttle is in position #4 (direct connection to battery pack).

Upgrade it with a conversion kit to a controller drive and run it at 48V with continuously variable speed. https://www.cartsunlimited.net/conversion-kits.html

Or just just add a controller and add some 1kΩ resistors the the existing wiper are type throttle and make it a 4 speed drive. The attached picture show 5 speed, but I don't know how that is possible, maybe it is the wiper assembly from a style different cart.

2. It would have to be some combination of batteries that will add up to 36V. Be sure to have both packs charged to about the voltage when you plug in the Anderson plug.
