EZGO txt 2010 - Changed charging port from 36v to 48v
Ok, so... we changed the batteries in this cart from 36 to 48v. Hooked everything up and went for a ride...no issues. Then the charging port was changed and the batteries were charged on a smart charger. The issue here is the charging port cables were connected backwards (+ and -). The batteries were charged, which is odd since the wires were reverse polarity. Now the solenoid clicks when the pedal is pressed but the cart won't move...beeper also works. Could we have fried the controller? Any thoughts?

Re: EZGO txt 2010 - Changed charging port from 36v to 48v
... this 48v charging port has 2 black wires, one with a resistor (I think) and one without. Maybe I just wired it incorrect. Anyone have a link to a wiring diagram. TIA

No wiring diagram handy, but it is pretty straightforward.
Red is B+ Black is B- Blue is controller disable (Electronic version of Reed switch) Gray cable contains two wires that connect to temperature sensor at the far end, which can be attached on any of the battery terminals since it is not connected to battery electrically. |

Ok, thanks.
So if the black and red were hooked up backwards, and a charger was plugged in, could it destroy the controller? |

Re: EZGO txt 2010 - Changed charging port from 36v to 48v
I suspect it depends on which make/model controller was installed. Some of them probably tolerate reverse polarity voltage better than others.
To start with, most chargers have a fuse or circuit beaker and the amp flow with the charger being reversed would have been huge, so the fuse probably blew. On the other hand, you said it was a smart charger, so it might have been smart enough to shut down on reversed polarity, or if it was really smart, it might have reversed its polarity also and proceeded to charge the batteries. The starting point is measuring the battery pack voltage, it may just be too low to fire up the controller. If it is above 48V, plug in the charger and continue monitoring the pack voltage. It should start increasing if the charger is charging the battery pack. What Make/Model charger? What make/Model controller? |
