I’m just re-using the original factory supplied controllers that are capable of 500amps. Unfortunately it seems you can’t program these like the alltrax. If I could I would simply limit the amps the controllers pulled.

So one 60 ah 53v nominal pack can handle 240 amp continuous?

Yes, a single module is rated to 240A continuous.

A module contains 4 cells in a 2S2P configuration (8.4v at 60AH).
Each cell is rated at 4.2V 30AH.
See attachment to see how cells are configured inside each module

Thanks rottie. You wouldn't happen to know of a good amp meter that I could pick up to do some analysis on my buddies buggy to get a feel for the amps it draws under load? That would be the easiest way to get the answer I need.....as long as the meter I need doesn't cost $1,000.

I would say look on eBay for any meter with external shunt.
I would start at a 500-600amp versions
There are a million options, it all depends on what you requirements are.

A simple setup is get a 500A at 50mV shunt with 50mV analog meter.
This will give you quick answers for probably less than $100.
If you want higher resolution, then look at the digital versions, but be aware that they usually required a isolated DC source to power the meter. Also the digital type usually goes in the negative lead.

I would go with 120AH - 14 Leaf modules. Wire them in 7S2P to get nominally about 50V and 120AH. Weight is 120 pounds. Volume is about two of your old batteries.

I agree with Volt_Ampere as a good start.

I found out the meter I have coming will read amp draw real time with a 75mv 1000amp shunt. That will allow me to do some testing on my buds cart to see what two motors pull. I will probably end up with the 120 ah pack.

Are the pics not working for everyone?

I'll post a link to a great write up on the JDL404 that I found later when I get home.

EVTV has a great writeup on the JDL404 Meter. Really good for those who are looking to install their own. Here is the path to the pdf.

Where does an amp meter hook into the electrical circuit?
