96 Club Car Brakes
Help! I give up. First let me say I've probably done 100 drum brake R&R on cars over the years. And now can't do a simple brake job on my Club Car.
The patient: 1996 Club Car lifted w 25/10/15 knobby tires The situation, brakes were really week so I purchased New shoes, drums and cables (damaged from "4 wheeling") The result the cart now has NO brakes! I can't believe installing the shoes improperly could cause no brakes! I've adjusted and adjusted to no avail. Any ideas? Any photos that could show how each shoe should look? Any and all ideas are appreciated. I refuse to pay somebody to do this, I'm just blind or stupid. Thanks in advance....jeff |

Re: 96 Club Car Brakes
CC uses a self adjuster setup ( item 9 ) that gets worn or frozen real easy causing problem that you have? BUT like SHADOWMAN says you may have bought wrong after market brake parts, as even installed wrong you should have some brakes?
With a cart that old I find that the brake pedal mounting blocks ( bearings item 23 under "Brake Pedal and Assembly" ) get worn loosing lots of travel to cables? Go to following site and click 1992-1996 and go to "Brake Assembly" and see break down of parts and part numbers. With your knowledge of auto brakes it should be no problem as you know cleaning and lub required and how to make basic adjustments. www.golfcartpartsdirect.com |

Re: 96 Club Car Brakes
There is shoe adjustment and cable adjustment. adjust shoe so they begin to drag and back them of until they just scrape the drum somewhere in the rotation.... than adjust slack out of the cables.... remember new cables will stretch so you will need to readjust in a few weeks, this should give you a peddle....

Re: 96 Club Car Brakes
Forgot to mention that if self adjusters are switched sides brakes will loosen rather than tighten.

Re: 96 Club Car Brakes
Well guys it always helps if you order the correct parts! I was told the cart was a 96...NOT 91! And yes 94 and newer do not work on pre 94's. Yes bad on me. Thanks for the help...jeff
