I am going to try to take it apart this weekend. Thanks for the information. I will let you know how it goes. Can the detent ball detect externally? Should I check for the detent ball first before disassembly?

Yes, it is items 85,86,and87. It is the bolt that goes straight in next to the shifter.If you split the case feel for a burr in the shifter bore. I have found that that will bind the shifter from full travel. Found that issue on a 01 ezgo,repaired it with a round file. Usually if the detent ball is missing, it is because someone split the case without removing it, it gets lost. They didn't take it out so it never existed.
