They must have addressed this problem.

Re: 2014 EZ GO RXV e-brake and batteries
Interesting discussion, but not sure if i understand it right. A separate hydraulic front disc brake is available for the RXV, so secure stopping would be possible w/o any current available. But if a BMS shuts down, the controller shuts down too (the e brake is powered by the controller). With a permanently powered e brake by the battery, you won't have any parking brake function. Another function of the RXV is the panic brake mode, where the e brake should engage additionally at any speed.

Re: 2014 EZ GO RXV e-brake and batteries
What I’m describing is not a permanently powered ebrake, but the ebrake control circuit to be powered directly from the main battery instead of from the BMS. From memory I don’t think it’s the controller that controls the ebrake.
The hydraulic front disc brakes would be a worthwhile upgrade for a lithium converted RXV without them. |

Re: 2014 EZ GO RXV e-brake and batteries
So who here thinks I could replace my own batteries with a lithium made for golf cars like Roypow 48V? Seems like I could save myself about $1000. But like other replies it is safe or should I look into AGM's since I hate lead acid batteries and the lithium can possibly cause brake locking up. IF I go AGM would I need a deep cycle battery and does CCA matter if I go AGM? Suggestions?

Curious how EZGO solves this problem on the Elite line of RXV's.
Do they have the same sudden shutdown if BMS is tripped? |

Re: 2014 EZ GO RXV e-brake and batteries
When a product is designed from scratch with lithium in mind, safeties can and should be built in. For example the BMS and controller would talk to each other and if the BMS was going to initiate a shutdown it would tell the controller, giving it some time to kill the motor and come to a controlled stop before doing so. That is just one example, there are many ways to skin a cat.

Re: 2014 EZ GO RXV e-brake and batteries
I tried the directions on the brake release switch when it first died. Batteries are disconnected completely at the moment and it is still locked. I may fool with it a bit tomorrow. It's sitting in the middle of my garage locked up so hopefully I can figure something out as my wife want's her parking spot back.
