Default New member with a chance to buy question

Hello all. I am new to this forum and hope to be a constructive contributor in the future.
I have the opportunity to purchase a 1997 twin cyl gas EZGO thats in pretty good shape for $1000.00.
But when I tried it out it had a non-metalic thump, bump or jerk in the rear end when starting into reverse. The motor was off before making the switch. It would do it every time but not when going back into forward. Is this a normal attribute of the design? Could this be the product of previous owners not allowing the motor to stop before switching to reverse as the EZGO website warns against? I'd hate to miss out on this deal after looking for two years now if this normal.
Any advice is appreciated.

There should be a small click when the unit actually falls into gear, but no thuds, clanks, or bangs. You will definitely know it if you don't stop completely and change gears.

Thats a good deal on that cart, You should get it. I have a cart that will do that. Its been running strong for years. There could be several reasons why its doing that. I would buy it for that price.
