Question 1995 EZGO medalist wiring question

Hello,I bought a 1995 medalist EZGO cart recently. It looks like it had some wiring problems in the past.As the picture shows,it's got a wire with the end taped up.I was wondering if someone could tell by the pics, what it's for and where it supposed to go.It looks to be just long enough to reach the controller box(I guess that's the correct name for it).The cart runs fine. The wires get warm pulling up a hill, but I'm going to upgrade to 4 gauge wire and better connectors.I stuck some masking tape on the wire so you could see where the other end is connected. Thanks for any help you can give.

That wire could have been a half-speed reveres or shunt but it does not matter anymore if your cart works fine. Number one rule with old carts: "Don't get hung up on the existing wiring", you don't know what others before you have done so when a problem does arise go back to your basic wiring.

Nothing wrong with being concerned before you have an issue with your cart.

Maybe remove the wire so it doesn't ground out floppin' around...and become a problem?
Like; shorting out, somehow.
