I did the same thing to the one I built for the customer only I used fiber glass resin and attached it to the body and went straight back to the bracket where the shocks mount

Just finished my Double Take install. I had spent some time on this odd bumper thing too. But in the end I discovered that it does have a function that works. You will only see it when you install the "Grill". Because the grill actually sit on top of the L bracket thing supporting the front of the body. Hope that helps.
