Question Starter/Generator Disassembly

Can anyone give me any insight into the disassembly of the starter/generator? Is it pretty straightforward? Do I need any special tools to get into it, namely to replace the two ball bearings that it spins on?

My S/G operates just fine, and it has no trouble doing what it's supposed to do; but I think I may have a slight bearing whine/whistle while driving at moderate rpms that I'd like to get rid of. This is the S/G in my 1987 Club Car.

Starters are very easy to work on. 10mm wrench and you can have it apart. Will need some more tools if your going to change bearings.

Which tools? I assume a bearing puller of some kind?

This is a 1997 maintenance/service supplement manual. On page 107 you will find the starter/generator section. I know this is a 1997 ds manual but the starter should be similar, you can disregard the rest.

Do the ball bearings take an external application of grease? That manual didn't say.

I have always greased the ones that are not sealed. That's the way I do them, and I might be wrong
