Cow mat is a great idea too. We always put one in the bed of our pickups. Keeps stuff from sliding around and really protects the, [WAY too thin] bed floor from dropped/pitched items. Also great for kneeling on concrete and underfoot at the workbench.

I second on the cow mat- I bought one at a car show for my shop floor (it was old rough finished concrete exposed to elements- I built shop around the slab) It is sooo nice to lay on when working- and I am gonna put one in the bed too for the same reason as dundeebarnbuggy.
