Re: So I just lifted my club car....
I'm not even close to having any experience with KF82's, but I doubt that carbon build up is the knocking issue!
Everything that I've read from Craig (springbok) when it comes to a KF82 knock, is usually an "out of round" crankshaft, which causes the rod to hit the back side of the engine block. then there's the oil splasher... they tend to break off of the bottom of the rod and make all sorts of noise also! Check to see if the splasher is still in place, and see if the rod is hitting the block. |

Re: So I just lifted my club car....
The splasher is there, I tried to turn and twist the connecting rod through the full motion and it seemed tight as a drum. I cleaned out the carbon I’m going to put it back together and try to run it.

Just ran it, I can’t believe it but I think that was the problem. I have a video but not sure how to post it.

Re: So I just lifted my club car....
The carbon on your piston would not make your engine knock.

That's what I keep telling my engine, but she refuses to start knocking again! ;)

Re: So I just lifted my club car....
Maybe it was something else that you inadvertently fixed when you pulled the motor and put it back together? I agree that carbon doesn't immediately jump out in my mind as a reason for an engine to be knocking. Did you remove the connecting rod from the crank and re-install it?

So I just lifted my club car....
Hey Craig, no I did not. I check to make sure that the rod was tight and it was through the entire range of motion. A good friend of mine who’s the best mechanic I know, and he thinks the carbon on the head and the carbon on the piston were just enough to touch and cause the knock.

Re: So I just lifted my club car....
And I ran it again, and swear the knock is back... That or I'm losing it...
Sounds very different though. |
