Default 1984 EZGO Fuel/Oil mixture?

Hello first post,

I have a 1984 EZGO with the 244cc Robins 2pg engine. I'm getting ready to rebuild the top end. I've removed the oil injection and plan to mix my gas. My question is that everything I've read says a mixture of (85:1) 1.5 oz oil to gal gas for general use but a friend who works on small engines says I should mix it 32:1 and rejet the carb. Or should I just purchase a new oil pump and go back to oil injection. Which one?

I had a 80 model 2 stroke and I mixed mine. 40:1 ratio. I never had a issue out of it and would go on 2 and 3 hour rides at a time.

Sounds good thanks. I guess I'll just rebuild it, run it and check the spark plug color.

I talked to an EZGO dealer/mechanic and he told me to run 1.5oz oil to 1 gal gas (85:1). This still seems very light on oil although I'm sure you're are supposed to use premium grade. I don't have mine rebuilt yet so I'm not sure what I'll do. Bustin, did you rejet your carb? Or are you running it how it came?

Hey Go time, the owner before me did the work i havent touched the carb. i also read some where on this board that the oil mixture should be 1.5 oz to 1 gallon. Presently i am runing the 50:1 but im going to switch over to the 85:1 as this board has mentioned..
At this time my cart is down for some paint and will be back up in a few weeks, ill let you know how the 85:1 feels...

hey go time,
I have a 90 marathon, just completely rebuilt all the way down to the crank, the first tank of gas I ran 50:1(to allow for break in), after that i have been running 85:1(or 1.50 oz per gallon) I didnt have to rejet the carb, the engine runs for hours at a time with no problems. If you mix to much oil in your gas you will end up clogging up the muffler and replacing more spark plugs than necessary

good idea to disconnect the stupid auto oiler, mine went out and the motor went BOOM

Agree the best way to go is to pre mix your own fuel, and eliminate the oil pump all together..

Thanks guys, I'm getting ready to rebuild mine down to the crank as well. Ordered the parts just gotta wait for them to get here. Can't wait to get it running another summer at the lake without the cart might kill me. No fun driving to the beach in your car when everyone else is on a cart.

I have a 1984 ezgo cart that has had the pemix pump removed. I just had it rebuilt. The guy that rebuilt it said I should use 38:1 premix oil. Has anyone had any experience with this. I'm not particularly comfortable with my mechanic. thanks.
