Default 87 ezgo marathon not running with spark and compression

Hi, I just purchased an 87 ezgo marathon that isn't running. I replaced the fuel, fuel lines, fuel filter, carb, spark plug, and disconnected the exhaust. The only way I can get it to fire is to pour mixed gas down the spark plug hole making it run for about 15 seconds. After that is sputters out and dies. The compression is coming in at 140. Even ether into the carb won't give me a sputter. Any ideas where to look next?

I should add. When I picked it up the prior owner said he had gotten it to barely run and put around the parking lot. I wasn't getting fuel, so I replaced the factory pump with a 3 to 4psi online electric pump. I've tried to start it with it plugged in and disconnected to make sure I'm not flooding it out.

Piston is most likely in backwards. Remove exhaust. Move piston up and down. Look for square hole in side of piston. If you see it, then it's backwards.

Pulled the exhaust and the piston is in the correct way. I should also clarify my original post was incorrect. The compression is coming in at 125 to 130. Any other ideas on the next thing to check? I'm getting spark that appears strong, but is it possible its intermittent or too weak?

Pulled the plug wire to check visual spark and its arcing between the boot and the metal. Going to start with replacing the wire and going from there since it appears the insulation wore off.

Factory compression only hit 120, so I high compression was a sign of being in backwards.

On to the next thing...
My next thing to check would be crankshaft seals.

My first guess would be crank seals. Blown out seals will kill crankcase pressure/vacuum and will both stop the fuel pump from working and also not create the vacuum to draw fuel in from the carb.

Thanks for the help. New plug wire and crank seals ordered last night. Just waiting on the parts man to find out where I sit. I really didnt want it to be the crank seals, but I wasn't getting any pulse on the fuel pump hole, so I'm guessing that's the problem.

Parts arrived this week, pulled the motor yesterday, and got the fan shroud off. I'm a little lost on how to pull the fan side flywheel off of the crank? I downloaded the 1985 EZ go manual, but it just says to remove. I originally tried to thread 2 long bolts on the inner most bolt holes to push the puller off after getting the fan off, but i'm afraid I may have destroyed the coil below the plate. So, i may have to purchase one of those once it's off. What is the best way to pull the flywheel off? I tied using a standard puller, but I'm afraid I'm gong to destroy the key on the end of the crank that attaches to the oil pump.

To take apart the clutch side I take it I should remove the spark plug, fill cylinder with small rope to keep engine from rotating, and remove draw bolt and washers. From what I've read in other posts it sounds like I may have luck coating the draw bolt with Teflon tape, filling the hole with oil, and cranking it back on to pull the clutch?

Thank you again for the help on this project. The good news is that I am on the right track. The crank seal on the clutch side was laying loosley around the crank, so you guys definitely pointed me in the right direction. I just need a little help on how to get to the seals to replace them.
