Default Current Draw vs. Speed

Just an FYI.

I have to admit the motor Columbia is using seems pretty efficient if you keep the speed down.

Current is as measured by an installed Victron BMV-712 AH meter.

Since I installed my 3 position personality switch I have been able to hold constant cruising speed and observe the current draw at each setting while running flat out on fairly level ground.

Position 1 top speed ~25 mph at ~90 amp. It goes to regen at 27 mph. (Normal Driving)
Position 2 top speed ~16 mph at ~38 amps. Goes to regen at 17 mph. (Golf Course Setting)
Position 3 top speed ~36 mph at ~195 amps. Never took it up to max so regen is a question. I suspect the motor life is questionable at ~6000 rpm but no one passes me if I feel froggy.

I would think the current draw vs. speed will be similar with the Sevcon as well as my Alltrax.

Default Re: Current Draw vs. Speed

Just to add a bit more information I took the car on an extended street drive as opposed to my more normal just driving on the street 1.5 miles to the golf course than back to the garage.

I thought it was quite impressive that I was able to do ~15 miles averaging 23 mph and only used 34% of my charge....about 42 AH if memory serves. I'm not sure what Columbia advertised as the range for this model when new with stock setting but I could see 30 miles or better as a possibility. Per the manual it appears the stock speed was set to 19 mph vs. my 25 mph so the range would be really good.

Hats off to Columbia for a great design.
