well how about the gauge of the resistors? does the larger diameter mean you don't "waste" as much amperage by actually speeding the cart in the third speed?

The larger wire with fewer coils offers less resistance then the smaller wire with more coils ..... this is how the speed is regulated.

so the less resistance the faster you go?

On a resistor cart there are NO RESISTORS in the circuit at wide open throttle. The resistors are there for speed control at less than WOT.

okay but at speeds less than wide open throttle the bigger the gauge and fewer coils, speeds the cart up and the smaller the gauge and more coils slows the cart?

Perhaps, but I cannot confirm this from a practical standpoint. Just what are you trying to accomplish?

At WOT (Wide open throttle) the resistors are out of the circuit. If you have a lower resistance resistor you would go faster at partial throttle but it really makes no sense at all to do something like this when you can just push the pedal further. It's just a waiste of money..again, at WOT the coils are out of the circuit so its doesn't matter. Your not going to gain anything.

LL are you needing resister coils for repairs?

not trying to accomplish anything and don't need any resistors. i just saw that they sold different sizes for the same speed and was wondering why. call it intellectual curiosity. my resistors are a little rusty but they seem to work fine i wouldn't mess with them unless they burnt through. thanks for the answers fellas. also i charged my cart allnight last night and when i got up this morning it was drawing about 2 amps(usually 10 was about as low as it would go) but the old girls running like a scalded dog now. makes it worth while to slap some paint on it...lol
