Default I'm new to this site, please can you help me

We have an 89 ezgo 2 cycle golf cart that needs some help. It started off with week compression and we were told the top half needed to be rebuilt. We had found that half of the piston skirt was gone and so we replaced the piston and new rings and all new gaskets. Now my problem is that I have less compression now than i did with the broken piston and it wont start, doesnt make sense to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

lets start with the compression, what is the psi now! and are you testing with the pedal all the way down? did you hone the cylinder before you installed the piston/rings. did you make sure that the arrow on top of the piston was pointed to the exhaust port.

alot of questions but its the easiest way to do it from here

The arrow points to the fly wheel or transmission, it will not point to the reed valve or exhaust side. Please help me I'm bald but about to pull my beard out lol.
Ok now on a serious note how would I know if it's the wrong size piston rings. I ordered a standard size piston and rings. Before I put a new piston in we had about 60 psi with the broken piston. now with new piston and rings we have 25 psi. at first i had the holes in the side of the piston towards the reed valve ( had approx. 25 psi) so now I took it back apart and put the holes in the side of the piston towards the exhaust port. compression stayed the same. I did not hone the cylinder wall but everything looked good.

go to the top of the ezgo forums and open up the EZGO GAS TECH forum,
then open up the sticky called EZGO MANUAL, DIAGRAM, OR ID HELP.
in there you'll find a detailed discription on a top end rebuild for your motor
including all the pics.

good luck, Dew
