The last 2 I replace that had broken timing belts did no damage. Replaced belt and they fired right up

The easiest way to tell if the belt broke is remove the oil filler plug and turn over eng, you can see cam thru the hole. If it turns than it is good, if not than it b broke. This will save you a step from going trhu all the trouble of removing clutch and cover is belt is still truning cam.

I did have ine cart that the belt was good but the cam gear was stripped on the dowl pin on the cam. It would run sometimes and than it would not.

That is easier than pulling the valve cover, you won't get squirted
Never thought of that.
I put a water pump in a diesel. It runs off the timing belt... If you can time that with the cam, injector pump and all, this will be cake.

I'm so sorry. The bolt you need is 3/4-16. I had read 3/4 -20 somewhere ( probably for something else.), went to double check and sh**. That's fine thread for a 3/4 bolt. 16 threads pre " ......Sorry!

Thanks for confirming that. I kinda figured that might have been the case. I tried to get one yesterday at Lowe's. Didn't have it (as usuual) I'll stop by a REAL (mom and pop)hardware store this afternoon. The old mans in the middle of nowhere, but he's got a small machine shop(lathe, mill, ETC,) so I could have turned a 3/4 X 20 bolt if the 3/4 X 16 was the wrong thread. Now I just don't have to worry about it.

Thanks again for all your help. You've probably saved me two or three trips out there already. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Thanks, I seriously worried about that yesturday. Glad you caught it. Wheeew!

Here's a picture of a puller and the bolt/ rod for reference....
Here's a better picture. The rod can be 4-5". The shorter rod allows more threads in the clutch

We'll its running again.. I apprieciate all your help. The tool worked like a charm. I didn't have to jack the cart up or remove any spring bolts or anything weird. I just took the battery out and the clutch retaining bolt slid out above the frame. I cut up a 6 or 7 inch 5/8 bolt for the round stock.. both the bolts cost me a total of $4.50.. And worked like a charm.

BTW, It wasn't the belt. It was fine. It would appear that a throttle blade is the perfect size to hold an intake valve open which immediately shut the engine down. Thank God. Needless to say the cylinder head came off to extract it and the two screws. It had one screw in each cylinder. Unbelievedly, I didn't find any damage. I basicly bolted it back together (after shaving the head) with a new head gasket and t belt. No harm No foul.

Just call me Lucky
