Default Workhorse Education Needed

Hi Guys,
I may have an opportunity to possible get a 1998 workhorse. He doesn't know the model #. Just the serial #. Anyway, the motor broke a rod and is tore apart. Its a robins 295. Otherwise, everything else is there and stock. He had no pics of the cart. What should I know before going to look at this thing? Is a motor rebuild or replacement a better way to go. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with this cart when I'm done, maybe just a cash cow the save up for a limo. I don't know. Is it even worth screwing with? What kind of cost am I looking into to get this going again? Thanks guys

I have a 97 with a 350 with a busted rod. As soon as I get back down to Fla. I'm going to get a rebuilt engine from J&M,who you can can find on the site sponsor tab on here. They run $650 as long as you have a rebuildable core.

They tell you it needs an engine and then when you start getting the new $650 motor in you find out it needs $400 worth of misc repairs and it still has bald tires and torn seat..... I think Cash Cow is a stretch on a 98

The 98 should have a 350 in it. If it now has a 295, then it would seem to be a junkyard build and I'd be a little shy on it...

WOW! I'm glad I asked. I wasn't sure if I should run or not. I'm sure the guy will get in touch with me as I'm probably the only hot lead he's got. But if it suppose to have a 350 then I am a little leary. What's it worth? If he is willing to deal.

I would offer 200-300.00 and see if he yells at me. You know you need a motor. The clutches are 4-500. the motor 650. You'd have 1200.00 in it before you knew if the brakes work... The 1200, long wheel base model, steel bed and the 350 can still get about $2000. if it's in good shape. People just like that model. That's AL.
Florida?...If it's been near the salt it will have bad corrosion to the frame and other components...

Yea, I was just looking for a ballpark figure.

This was what I was thinking. So at least I feel better now as to my thought process. Well, we will see what happens.

Thanks for all the info,

Well the decision was made for me.
He sold it before I had a shot at it. Musta been a good deal.

Oh well, It wasn't exactly what I wanted anyway. So all is good.
