Default stoped running

i have a 89 tx ez go. the other day my boys were driving it
and the cart just died on them. i finally got it back running
and pulled it in the garage but it didn't have any power
and the motor sounded like it had a pinging noise. well
any way did a compression check and it was 100psi what
should the compression be?

I put crankshaft, bearings, piston, cylinder and seals in a 1986 (2pg) model last year and the parts were approx. $350.00.

1989 is not a TXT but, a Marathon. If the motor is a 4 stroke? THen it is a 295cc. Better help will be along soon ....

two stroke compression should be a little higher but they will run with 100psi I think ezgo says the cut off for a rebuild is 110psi on that engine. It's probably time for at least a top end rebuild

i'm gonna get top end rebuilt but i need one more answer.
when i did my copression check it showed 100psi i didnt
realize that it was in reverse so i put the shifter in forward
and come up with 88psi why whould this number be lower?
is there maybe another problem besides top end?

Because the engines runs both forward and backwards it'll want to push the piston to the side of the cylinder it's rotating towards. this means it wears more going in one direction than the other. the forward reading is always lower than reverse because it has been run more in that direction.

had the same problem , on a 93 marathon, the problem was one of the bolts that held the rod to the crank came off and just rrattled in the bottom of the motor until finally the rod broke. i spent prob 150 $ on a new piston/rod/seal and gasket kit. the cylinder wasnt hurt at all.
